Social Security Disability

Overview Process Eligibility

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a Federal program designed to provide benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to a physical or mental condition. Currently, over 4 million disabled individuals are receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

If you have paid the required amount of your FICA taxes, and medical documentation shows you cannot work anymore, you may qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. Please see our “Eligibility” page for more information.

If you qualify, you will receive disability benefits. The benefits you receive from Social Security Disability Insurance will remain unless your medical condition improves. Once you reach the retirement age of 65, you are automatically transferred from Social Security Disability Insurance to Social Security Retirement. Social Security Disability Insurance can also provide benefits to a widow(er) and children when their loved one has passed.
